Orientations Asian art magazine - Volume 36 Number 5 June 2005
The Musee Cernuschi was closed in 2001 for extensive renovation and conversion, but is now opening its doors again in June with redesigned and enlarged galleries. Gilles Beguin describes some of the new features, and Michel Maucuer provides a profile of Cernuschi the man, covering the beginnings of his collecting and the founding of his museum. |

Further articles discuss different aspects of the collections: Olivier Venture examines emblems on Shang and Western Zhou bronzes; Michel Maucuer takes a fresh look at several bronze mirrors in the collection which have previously been listed as Chinese; Helene Chollet presents some recent acquisitions which have enhanced the museum's selection of Liao tomb artefacts; and Gilles Beguin looks at one of the museum's masterpieces, the controversial handscroll Grooms Presenting Horses.
This issue also includes a rich crop of interviews, reports on recent auctions, a profile on the Asia Art Archive and an exciting proposal for Hong Kong's cultural redevelopment.
