Situated at the heart of the new “city within a city” of Roppongi Hills and open until late at night with breathtaking views over the whole of Tokyo, the Mori Art Museum is quickly becoming a dynamic and challenging interface between the art of our times and as broad a public as possible. The new Museum is also the keystone of founder Minoru Mori’s vision of Roppongi Hills as an “Artelligent City,” a forward-looking model for new kinds of urban development in Tokyo and elsewhere.
The desire to research, show and disseminate the work of contemporary Asian artists and creators, is at the heart of the mission of the Mori Art Museum.
It presents a program of exhibitions focused on contemporary Asian art but also extending to cover all expressions of contemporary Asian culture, from architecture and design to fashion. The museum also presents the art of past ages in cases where it throws light on the art of the present.
A deep concern with the relationship between art and life - and the quality of both - is the starting point for all the programs.
Location and opening hours:
The Mori Art Museum is located in Roppongi Hills in the center of Tokyo and is open until 10pm every night except Tuesdays (when it is open until 5pm), making it easily accessible to Tokyo residents and visitors alike. (Note, the museum is closed when exhibitions are not being held.) An extensive range of public programs, including lectures, symposiums and workshops is also held.
